The Chinook
Native Americans paddled their canoes up and down the Columbia River, to trade salmon and
whale oil. Most Chinook people had a flat forehead
because babies spent most of their first year in a cradleboard. A cradleboard is something
the put their babies in to reshape the babies forehead without hurting them.

Chinooks used grapes for dye. |
The Chinooks were great at building canoes. If
they didn't have trees they wouldn't have canoes because they made them out of trees by
carving the bark. They colored the canoes different colors by using different dyes.
For example, they used all different kinds of berries for different colors that's what
made them look good.
